Last year I drew the above cartoon to illustrate signals at the time that Federal government was about to drop funding of scientific research for Genome Canada. It coincided with the annual budget and the announcement of rebates for Canadians doing household renovations.
The cartoon caught the eye of Han Slootweg, surfing on the Internet, who wanted to use the cartoon as part of his visual presentation in his inaugural speech upon becoming Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. The trick for me was to adapt the cartoon to the experience in Holland.

The revised cartoon called for Dutch to replace English, a bag of Euros had to be added along with mountains, even though the Netherlands isn’t exactly known for the snow capped peaks depicted above. Despite that the architecture of the buildings is pretty familiar to anyone whose been to Amsterdam. The guy with the hat is the Dutch Minister of Education.

And there he is, Han Slootweg. Congratulations!
