Ontario Liberals propose holiday in February

Ontarians can expect a new holiday in February if the Liberals are re-elected next month.

Premier Dalton McGuinty has proposed a new holiday called Family Day aimed at recognizing the importance of Ontario families by giving them more time to spend with their loved ones.

He says adding Family Day to the calendar will give Ontario workers a total of nine long weekends per year.

That would put Ontario on par with Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and the Territories.

Progressive Conservative leader John Tory dismissed the announcement as crass electioneering, saying Mr. McGuinty has had four years in office to invent new holidays.

NDP leader Howard Hampton released a statement saying the McGuinty Liberals can’t be counted on to keep their promises.

“Dalton McGuinty found the time to give himself a $40,000 raise, but didn’t get around to giving working families a much-needed day off,” Mr. Hampton said. (Source: Canada.com) http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=62743e3e-d95e-46cf-a89c-6dbbac2e1de2
