You may not have encountered it before, but here’s another case of a distant e-commerce website siphoning off substantial amounts of Western consumer cash while exploiting unsuspecting artists. Throughout January, I’ve been immersed in the process of removing my creative content from Printerval, where I found my designs posted by mysterious and dubious sellers. The identities of these sellers remain obscured behind their cryptic usernames.
Printerval markets itself as a platform for custom apparel and products, boasting user-friendly design tools that allow individuals and businesses to create personalised items. It also claims to feature a marketplace for independent artists to showcase and sell their unique designs.
This is the feel-good image Printerval wants to project. In reality, however, the Vietnam-based company has gained notoriety as a haven for unscrupulous sellers who profit from knockoffs, counterfeit goods, and blatant intellectual property infringement. They offer cheap products that appeal to vast numbers of first-world consumers, drawn in by the illusion of great deals, especially during a time when a cost-of-living crisis is tightening budgets. The platform has faced criticism for permitting the sale of stolen designs, undermining the work of original creators without consequence. This environment not only dissuades genuine content creators from using the site, but it also fosters a culture rife with intellectual property theft, leading to significant financial losses for those whose designs are misappropriated.
Below is a list of sellers on Printerval who are selling my designs without permission. Printerval is complicit in allowing these bad actors to profit from intellectual property theft with impunity. Here’s a rogues’ gallery of blatant criminal activity permitted to flourish with the support of first-world domain registry companies (Printerval is registered with Namecheap.com) and credit institutions:
