This skepticism is warranted as the U.S. positions itself as a key player in Venezuela’s recovery, controlling a puppet regime and wielding influence over vital resources.

The administration’s swift response has been framed as efficient and benevolent, but critics argue it’s more about geopolitical strategy than altruism. Just two days ago, Trump boasted about recouping war costs 28 times over through Venezuelan oil, highlighting the transactional nature of this “aid.” With the U.S. managing oil exports and gaining control over key infrastructure, the potential for resource exploitation overshadows humanitarian goals.

To avoid long-term dependency, it’s imperative to strengthen local institutions. Empowering Venezuelan agencies to handle emergencies can foster genuine sovereignty and resilience. The focus should shift from foreign control to building a self-reliant state capable of addressing its own challenges.

This natural disaster presents both a tragedy and an opportunity. The path forward must prioritize the lives and well-being of everyday Venezuelans over geopolitical gains. Only through sincere, transparent efforts can this crisis become a turning point for the people of Venezuela, rather than a chapter dominated by foreign interests.
